I’ve had my hands on the Lucid HD7 red dot sight for the last couple of days. I have it out on a T&E (testing and evaluation) loan, and will be writing about it for my first review in a real, honest-to-God gun magazine shortly, after I get another range session under my belt.
Jason Wilson, Lucid founder, is hardly resting on his laurels, however, and is announcing a variable-power magnifier that he claims is an industry first.
LUCID announces the addition of the worlds first, variable (2x – 5x) magnifier for red dot sights.
Available soon from LUCID, to shooting enthusiasts, law enforcement personnel and other armed professionals, this magnifier will allow for the flexibility to better adapt to the situation and provides additional flexibility and capability, making the shooter much more effective when taking the longer shots, yet still equipped for CQB in the same set up.
“This magnifier offers superior clarity, brightness and contrast all in a quality design and durable construction that has come to be expected from LUCID products. When combined with a swing off or FTS mount and LUCID’s hallmark HD7 red dot sight, it becomes an even more powerful tool, giving shooters the most robust set of features, benefits and operator selectable options of any modern red dot set up.
Some of the key features of the LUCID 2x-5x variable magnifier include a 30mm mounting tube, Waterproof, Fog Proof and Shock proof (.308) construction, exceptional ruggedness, light weight (7.5oz.), a comfortable and forgiving eye relief and premium optics providing a smooth optical performance over the entire magnification range. The extremely durable armored aluminum body allows for this variable-power magnifier to a nice addition to the LUCID line.
Fully Multi-coated lenses coupled with a light absorbing interior finish suppress glare and provide an extraordinarily crisp and bright optical image. LUCID’s efficient use of space and quality optics in developing the magnification range deliver the flexibility that has been greatly needed in the market for some time.
Even at the highest magnification (5x), the LUCID’s variable red dot magnifier offers an expansive field of view, allowing for easy tracking and locating of targets, this coupled with the generous, eye relief make the LUCID’s variable red dot magnifier comfortable and easy to use.
Measuring (4.75) inches in length, the LUCID’s variable red dot magnifier mounts behind any red dot sight with a industry common 30mm mount.
I’ve written back to see if he’s set pricing yet, and hope to get my hands on one when it is available.
Update: I got an update from Jason Wilson at Lucid. The 2x-5x variable magnifier will retail at $229.
